HENRY SCOTT1 CLARK was born 1804 in Yorkshire, England, and died Abt. 1865 in Neosho, Dodge Co., WI. He married MARY NEWLOVE 25 Oct 1825 in Kingston, Upon Hull, Yorkshire, England. She was born 13 Feb 1808 in Yorkshire, England, and died 30 Aug 1863 in Neosho, Dodge Co., WI.Notes for H
ENRY SCOTT CLARK:in the US Federal Census of 1860 Henry lists his personal estate at $100. The only child showing in the household at this time is Sarah.
He does not show any land ownership, which is why I suspect he is living on either George Browns land or Erwin Watermans. Nor is an occupation listed for him.
Interesting note is who is living next door at this time:
His two immediate neighbors are George Brown, age 32, born in England. Married to Atlanta age 26, born in NY, with daughter Mary A., age 8. I really
believe this is Atlanta Clark, daughter of Henry Scott. Her age and birthplace are perfect and Erwin Waterman who lives on the other side of Henry, his wife Lucy Sophronia is a Brown. Making the connection more likely. As I can prove time and time again, people marry who they know and live close to during this age. George is a distant cousin of Lucy Sophonia I am sure. He lists his birthplace as England, where her family has been around in New England for a couple of generations. Over and over I can prove family members coming to America to join other relatives.
Two Waterman children marry Henry Scott Clark's children, Roland to Sarah and Marion Josephine to Henry S.
In the 1850 Census for Rubicon, page 50, Dodge Co., WI appear three other Clark families. I list them here for reference because I believe there probably is a tie to them:
William Clark:, age 40, laborer, born in England, spouse is Phebe, age 44
Children: Henny age 4, Adolph age 2
On the very next page (51) appear two other Clark families:
Ossiau (sp?) Clark, age 57, physician (and what looks like "veternarian" !), born in NY. Spouse Nancy age 28, also born in NY
Children: Hanette (sp?) age 23, Julia age 17, and Madina age 16. Hanette born in NY, latter two in WI.
Next house over is listed Oscar W. Clark, age 30, Farmer, born also in NY. Spouse is "Anna", (handwritting is poor, last entry on page) age 20, born in Canada

Vital statistics:
age 24, Blue eyes, Brown hair, Light complexion. 5' 8", occupation as Farmer prior to enlistment. Private at enlistment
William was recruited by Lt. Kohlsport in Fond Du Lac, WI at the same time with his brother Henry S. William was wounded at The Battle of Chaplin Hills, KY 8 Oct 1862. Records show he was transfered with Henry to Louisville Nov 1862 for hospitalization. There is a note he was wounded in the thigh at Perryville also. Leave of Absence in Sep 1863. This must have been for a very short time. He was captured by Confederate Forces on 20 Sep 1863 at The Battle of Chickamauga, GA 19-20 Sep 1863. He was listed MIA until the GAR recieved notification via Prisoner List #3. He died as a Confederate Prisoner, Andersonville, GA Andersonville National Park reference #11744, gravesite.
Scorbutis is listed as cause of death. I researched it and found "Scurvy". I found some medical research papers stating that scurvy is from the lack of Vitamin C. A biochemestry research paper stated that "numerous investigations have demonstrated that in vitamin C deficiency the principal failure of wound healing was impaired synthesis and secretion of collagen (Robertson and Schwartz, 1953)."
In plain english, William died from the lack of Vitamin C and his wounds not healing properly.

Henry and his brother William enlisted at the same time 23 Sep 1861 in Hartford, in the same Company for 3 years of service. Henry and William were mustered in 14 Oct 1861 at Milwaukee, WI. Henry was wounded in Chaplain Hills, KY and was hospitalized in Louisville, KY from 02 Nov 1862 to Feb 1863. Shown as back to duty Feb 1863. Wounded again in Mar 1863. He was discharged 08 Apr 1863 in Murfreesboro, TN.
Re-enlisted, Corporal/Sergeant, Company B, 35th Regiment Wis Inf. Enlisted 17 Nov 1863, discharge 15 Mar 1886, 4 year 2 months 2 days Discharged as Sergeant at Brownsville, TX.
I believe Henry re-enlisted because his mother died that summer and his brother William was taken prisoner in Sept. and later died in Andersonville Confederate Prison 2 Nov 1863.

"The Oconto Post Office was located on the first floor of the Elks' Lodge building. George R. Hall was postmaster; Arthur W. Davis was assistant postmaster; Garrard Hall, Rudolph Schultz and Eleanor Lee were postal clerks. Peter Heller, Ray Klass, Charles Vogel, George Perdzock and Louis Tennesen were city mail carriers, Lucius Clark, Guy Williams, Joseph Neuville, Herman Rosenfeldt, Tim Couillard and Henry Mehlberg had charge of the rural routes."
Birth location variations abound. Correct date on all versions, Neosho, Janesville, Rubicon are all listed in additional sources, which are within miles of each other. Until I find his birth certificate, which one is correct is unknown.
